New boy with a 301 in my shed!

 Hi everyone....

My name is Mike Smith from Derby. I have a 301cc race bike in large pieces in my shed and I really don't have a clue about it! Am I allowed to race it as a solo, as I think it was part of an outfit?.. Please be patient with me as I really don't have a clue about MZ racing at all, any info at all for me will be very much appriciated

MIke

Re: New boy with a 301 in my shed!
Hi Mike

I'm in my first season as a zedder so can't give you too much advice but if you can make it down to Snetterton this weekend then there will be a fairly big group of us there who will be glad to show you what it's all about.

Its meant to be a bit of a wet weekend but it's good to come and see how the bikes are built and plenty of people will tell you what you need to do and what you need to avoid. And you can come see some awesome racing... Even if it is wet.

Re: New boy with a 301 in my shed!

Hi Steve.

Thanks for the reply, My son and myself are "booked" this weekend unfortunatly, however we would love to come and see/chat to everyone, are there any more dates set yet for meetings?

I really don't know what I have in my shed, to say I'm clueless is an understatement! I'm pretty sure its a 301 and was part of an outfit as the frame has been professionally lowered and looks like the ones in the outfit pics on here. The bike is complete (with spares) except for exhaust and front mudguard, the barrel looks like it has been ported by someone that knows what they were doing and it seems a shame for it not too be used, so I'm pretty keen to get it sorted.

Thanks again for the reply and the info

Mike

Racing regs are on this link http://www.bmzrc.org.uk/Racing/RegulationsTechnical/tabid/60/Default.aspx

Best bet is to come to a meeting and chat to a few of the gurus and maybe a few pictures of the bike would help us along.

Re: New boy with a 301 in my shed!

It sounds like it could have been built for the MZ sidecar series that used to be run. As far as I'm aware the regs for the motor spec were far less restrictive than our current regs so there could be a lot of differences. The best bet is as Chris (95) suggested, also bringing as much of the stripped motor as you can with you.    Could be interesting.

Re: New boy with a 301 in my shed!

ey up Mike, i'm currently building a racer and i live near Derby, i'm a complete novice and decided to build a bike from a stocker, sometimes it's been a labour of love but  i have had a lot of help off the lad's on the forum, i'm certainly no expert like the other lad's but if you want to meet up i can pass on what i know about getting your licence, the ctc test and you can have a look at my bike if this helps?, laters loveless.

Dave...

Thanks for the thread mate, I think it may be the best option, to bring as much of the bike as i can fit in the car and meet some of you guys to see where I can go with this thing. I t seems such a waste if I don't get it sorted one way or another
